How carpet area is calculated

Gross area: room length × room width.

Net area: gross area − deduction area.

Carpet requirement: net area × (1 + waste percentage ÷ 100).

For a room measuring 5 m × 4 m, the floor area is 20 m². With a 10% carpet allowance, the estimate is 22 m².

Frequently asked questions

How much extra carpet should I allow?

A 5–10% allowance can be a starting point for simple rooms. Patterns, seams and unusual layouts may require more.

Can I calculate multiple rooms?

Yes. Select up to five rooms and enter each room's dimensions.

Is this the exact amount I should order?

No. The estimate uses floor area. Confirm the final quantity with your supplier or installer, especially for patterned carpet or carpet sold in fixed roll widths.
