Flooring Calculator

Estimate floor coverage, allow for cuts and material waste, and calculate how many flooring boxes to purchase for one room or a whole project.

Use the same unit for every room and for the coverage printed on the package.

Step 01

Measurement settings

Choose your room dimension unit and waste allowance.

All room measurements and box coverage use this unit.
A planning allowance of 5–15% is common, depending on layout.
Step 02

Rooms or floor sections

For an L-shaped floor, split it into rectangles that do not overlap.

SECTION 1

Up to 50 room sections. Do not count the same floor area twice.

Step 03

Box coverage and optional price

Find the coverage per box on the manufacturer's package.

Example: enter 2.2 if each box covers 2.2 m².
The calculator does not assume a currency.

Calculation method

Flooring calculator formula

Floor area = length × width, summed across all sections.

Area including waste = total area × (1 + waste percentage ÷ 100).

Boxes required = round up (area including waste ÷ coverage per box).

For irregular floor plans, split the layout into simple rectangles without overlap. For complex patterns, consult the flooring manufacturer's guidance or your installer.

Measure accurately

Measure each section carefully and keep all measurements in one unit.

Allow for offcuts

Diagonal layouts, doorways, corners, and patterned planks can increase waste.

Keep spare material

Consider keeping spare boards or tiles for future repairs and replacements.
