House Area Calculator
Add individual rooms, hallways, kitchens, living areas, or other floor sections to estimate your house's total floor area. Enter each section's length and width, choose meters or feet, and see the combined area in square meters, square feet, and square yards.
Enter your house dimensions
Add a row for each room or non-overlapping floor section. For irregular layouts, divide the floor into rectangles and enter each rectangle once.
How the house area calculation works
Total floor area = sum of all section areas
For example, a house with a 5 m × 4 m living room, a 4 m × 3.5 m bedroom, and a 3 m × 3 m kitchen has a combined rectangular floor area of:
- Living room: 20 m²
- Bedroom: 14 m²
- Kitchen: 9 m²
- Total: 43 m²
Tips for measuring a whole house
- Measure each section in the same unit.
- Split L-shaped or irregular rooms into rectangles that do not overlap.
- Do not count the same hallway, landing, or open-plan area twice.
- For multiple floors, add sections from each floor to estimate the combined area.
- Whether walls, stairwells, garages, balconies, or unfinished areas count depends on the floor-area standard being used.
Square meters and square feet
One square meter is approximately 10.7639 square feet. This calculator converts the entered dimensions to a common metric area before adding sections, which helps avoid mixing measurement units.
