Room Area Calculator

Measure floor space one room at a time, combine several rooms into a total, or map an irregular room using coordinate points. A clear, geometry-inspired workspace helps you check each calculation.

Room area calculator: common questions

How do I calculate the floor area of multiple rooms?

Calculate each room or non-overlapping section separately, then add the individual areas. Use the same measurement unit throughout.

How can I calculate an L-shaped or irregular room?

For a right-angled layout, split the floor plan into rectangles and add them. For a polygon outline, select “Irregular polygon” and enter its vertices in order around the boundary.

What coordinate format should I use?

Use pairs such as 0,0; 4,0; 4,2; 2,2; 2,1; 0,1. Each pair represents an x and y position in the selected unit. Trace the boundary in order and do not cross the edges.

Does this include walls or account for overlaps?

This tool calculates the geometric area from the measurements you enter. It does not automatically subtract wall thickness, fixtures, or overlapping sections. For a practical floor estimate, use internal room dimensions and avoid counting any section twice.
