Swimming Pool Volume Calculator

Estimate how much water your swimming pool holds. Choose a rectangular, circular or oval pool, enter its dimensions, and specify whether the water depth is uniform or slopes from a shallow end to a deep end. Results include liters, cubic meters, US gallons, imperial gallons and cubic feet.

Enter pool dimensions

For an oval pool, enter its maximum width.
Use this when the water depth is approximately uniform.
For a simple sloped floor, average depth is estimated as (shallow + deep) ÷ 2.
Optional planning figure from 0% to 100%. The main result always shows the base volume.

Pool volume formulas

Rectangular pool

Volume = length × width × average water depth

Circular pool

Volume = π × radius² × average water depth

Radius is half the pool diameter.

Oval pool

Volume ≈ π × length × width ÷ 4 × average water depth

This formula treats the oval as an ellipse.

Pool with a shallow and deep end

Average depth ≈ (shallow-end depth + deep-end depth) ÷ 2

These formulas assume a regular plan shape and a reasonably simple floor profile. They provide an estimate rather than a precise engineering measurement.

Example calculation

For a rectangular pool that is 8 m long, 4 m wide and has an average depth of 1.5 m:

8 × 4 × 1.5 = 48 m³

That is approximately 48,000 liters, 12,680 US gallons or 10,558 imperial gallons.
